Osman Sagar is an artificial lake about an hour’s drive from Hyderabad. The drive itself is scenic with the highlight being Mrugavani National Park that falls on the way.
The lake is a well known spot for watching sunrise and sunsets.
The project also boasts of the largest canal system network in India .The mighty dam was completed in the year 1969 and has a majestic height of 124 meters. It is 1 km long, and has 26 crest gates. The dam can store upto 11, 472 million cubic meters of water in the reservoir.
Our first stop was Mrugavani National Park. The park has Safari tours from 10am to 4pm. You can roam around the park without the guided safari tours, however most parts of the park can be visited only on the guided tours.
After a stroll in the park, we continued driving for another 15 minutes to reach Osman Sagar.
Some blogs mention there is boating at Osman Sagar, however as of writing this article (July 2016) entering the lake area is prohibited. The lake is fenced, however the drive and the view is worth a day’s trip.
Finally, we headed to Chilkur Balaji Temple, which is another 15 minute drive from Osman Sagar. This temple is also called Visa Balaji Temple, as it is frequented by devotees with Visa related wishes.
